The Tory Government is in the process of reducing the number of MPs in Westminster and is therefore proposing to redraw some of the boundaries of their constituencies.
The proposals affecting the ‘Forest of Dean’ constituency mean a few relatively small changes to the boundary but a massive change to the name. The proposed ‘West Gloucestershire’ name has met with furious reaction from the people who live in and love the Forest.
Liberal Democrats have suggested that both names are incorporated into a new title: ‘The Forest of Dean and West Gloucestershire’. Many constituencies have longish titles and those who live north of the A40 have never quite felt that the ‘Forest of Dean’ matched their location. This proposal would suit everybody we hope. Our proposal has been sent through the official channels and we hope that it will be accepted.Leave a comment
